E-waste Management

Welcome to PRO FX

The Government of India, through its notification dated May 12, 2011, introduced the E-waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 2011 ("Rules"), placing the onus on consumers to responsibly dispose of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) rather than discarding it improperly or selling it to scrap dealers. This regulatory framework aims to curb environmental pollution. For PROFX and its consumers, electronic product recycling serves as a cornerstone of sustainable development and demonstrates a commitment to social responsibility. By recycling, valuable and scarce raw materials from electronic equipment such as plastics, metals, and glass can be reused in manufacturing new products. This circular approach not only extends the lifecycle of materials but also conserves finite natural resources. Additionally, recycling helps stabilize raw material prices, ultimately reducing costs for consumers and making products more affordable for all.

E Waste Collection Centres

PRO FX has put in place multi-city collection mechanism to assist its customers for disposal of e-waste, assuring all its customers that all its e-waste collected will be recycled/disposed by an authorized recycling agency. What is E-Waste?

E-waste, defined as waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), encompasses discarded items like computers, mobile phones, and household appliances. According to Schedule-1 of the E-Waste (Management & Handling) Rules, 2011, accessible via http://moef.nic.in/, managing e-waste necessitates adhering to Environmentally Sound Management practices. This entails taking comprehensive measures to safeguard health and the environment from any harmful effects that may arise due to hazardous substances present in such waste materials. Thus, proper management involves ensuring safe handling, recycling, and disposal methods for e-waste to mitigate environmental and health risks effectively.

Do’s:

Always deposit your used electronic products, batteries, and packaging materials at the nearest collection point at the end of their life. Separate packaging materials for responsible waste disposal and sort them for recycling. Remove batteries from products before recycling.

Don’ts:

Avoid giving your products to scrap dealers. Never dispose of e-waste in garbage bins or municipal waste facilities. Do not discard used batteries in household waste.

Consequences:

Improper handling, accidental breakage, and incorrect recycling of end-of-life products can lead to serious consequences. Improper disposal of batteries can harm human health and the environment. Placing batteries or devices near heat sources like microwave ovens, stoves, or radiators can cause explosions. Contact between battery terminals and metal objects may lead to fires.
