ShawlineX speaker cable is based around Chord Rumour (now known as RumourX) – a favourite for 20+ years.  The conductors are silver-plated, insulated with XLPE and arranged in a twisted pair configuration.  To produce Chord ShawlineX, we’ve taken the existing conductor layout, added a specially chosen PVC internal jacket to reduce mechanical noise, before applying the same high density, dual-layer foil and braid shield that we use on Chord Epic.

Previous versions of Shawline/Rumour speaker cables used PTFE insulation (often referred to as Teflon™) and until the arrival of Taylon®, this was our “go to” material. Although expensive, PTFE offered the best performance.

Material technology is constantly developing and improving and alternatives to PTFE are now available. While the high cost of Taylon® prevents us from using this in all of our ranges, we found a suitable replacement among the family of insulation materials known as XLPE (Cross-linked Polyethylene). One particular version stood out and following listening tests, proved to be clearly (sonically) better than the PTFE in Shawline/Rumour speaker cables.

Rumour/RumourX has been part of our range for so long because of its performance.  It’s neutral (ie. not biased towards one particular sound) and capable of carrying high levels of detail and dynamic information. Because of this, it will carry music in an extremely coherent manner.  In other words, your music sounds more like it should.

ShawlineX takes this as a starting point and refines it.  The whole reason for using high frequency effective shielding is that by reducing interference, the cable is better able to carry the micro-dynamics and timing slurs that musicians use so much to define rhythm and expression.  The Shawline also carries the very fine details that reveal more of the timbre of individual instruments.  This allows you to look further into and get more involved in music, with the added benefit of enhancing the image and depth of the system it’s being used in.

ShawlineX speaker cable is available off the reel or terminated at our UK factory with ChordOhmic 4mm banana plugs or ChordOhmic spade connectors.

Demonstration sets are available at most retailers.

Leyline2X

Leyline2X

Leyline2X has been designed to bring out the best performance from today’s increasingly sophisticated yet affordably priced electronics and loudspeakers and provide consistent and reliable service in environments where cables may be non-removable. Our latest XLPE dielectric brings a huge improvement over the previous (and more commonly used) PVC. This move follows the successful introduction of Taylon® as a phase-stable insulation material in the flagship SarumT and ChordMusic speaker cables and the subsequent roll-out of XLPE across our speaker cable ranges. The original Leyline was always our high-performance, low-cost offering. Using a 16/2 conductor construction, Leyline was ahead of other 16/2 narrow gauge cables from launch, thanks to tin-plated copper conductors which performed two roles: preventing oxidisation (crucial for non-removeable cables where long-term performance is expected), plus improved high-frequency performance over longer runs; Leyline could deliver surprising results even over 100 m lengths. Leyline2X builds on the time-proven Leyline platform and brings the advantages of XLPE technology to a new low price point, cementing its position as the market-leader in performance and value for hi-fi, home cinema and custom installations. For installers, the cable is metre-marked and is supplied in an easy-access 152m pull-box; it comes with a EN50575 DCA-S2, D2, A1 CPR rating. It also features a rip-cord to aid stripping of the outer jacket.   Tinned, stranded OFC conductors 16AWG XLPE Insulation Twisted pair configuration Low smoke, zero halogen outer jacket mm2: 1.31 Cable diameter: 6mm

SignatureXL speaker cable

SignatureXL speaker cable

SignatureXL is the latest version of one of our longest running (and universally loved) products. The original Signature was our first high-frequency shielded speaker cable (2004) and marked a massive leap in speaker cable performance. It was also the biggest, stiffest, brightest cable we’d ever made. The conductors were oxygen free copper, the insulation was gas foamed Polyethylene, Shielding was a three layer braid and foil combination, effective to high frequencies and the outer jacket a flexible polyethylene. It was just flexible enough to fit into a system. It didn’t need a press release or a review, it took off so fast by word of mouth, that for a while there was almost a permanent waiting list. It remained unchanged for about ten years, until we could apply improved building techniques and materials such as more efficient shielding, silver-plated conductors and PTFE insulation that would produce a more neutral tonal characteristic and a cable better able to carry detail, dynamics and timbre.  This became Signature Reference. Signature Reference, like most of our cables, used PTFE insulation (often referred to as Teflon™) and until the arrival of Taylon®, was our “go to” material. Although expensive, it offered the best performance. Material technology is constantly developing and improving and alternatives to PTFE are now available. While the high cost of Taylon® prevents us from using this in our Signature range, we were able to find a suitable family of insulation materials known as XLPE (Cross-linked Polyethylene). One version of this material looked particularly interesting and following listening tests, proved to be clearly better than the PTFE in Signature Reference. Every set of SignatureXL speaker cable is built to order and terminated at our UK factory with ChordOhmic 4mm banana plugs or ChordOhmic spade connectors.  Available in red/black or all black colour combos. All of these changes combine to produce a major step forward in musical reproduction at this price point – but don’t take our word for it.
