Epic X

EpicX (prev Epic/Epic Twin) has been part of our speaker cable range for many years – it’s a shielded cable that works with pretty much every style of speaker.  From mid-price to high end, EpicX brings detail, dynamics, resolution and coherence to every speaker it’s used with.  It’s particularly good at bringing control and definition across the bass frequencies and is the ideal cable solution for floor-standing speakers. EpicX is based on our multi-award-winning Chord OdysseyX speaker cable.  Both cables use 12 AWG oxygen free copper negative and positive conductors, silver-plated and insulated with XLPE before an outer PVC jacket is applied.  The key difference (and performance leap) is due to the effective high frequency combination shield and translucent PVC jacket that is added to EpicX. EpicX is the perfect partner for Chord Company ChordOhmic plugs, neatly complemented by the new ‘trousers’. In addition to factory terminations, the cable can also be professionally terminated by participating Chord Company dealers equipped with the new ChordOhmic Hex Gun tool; the service not only delivers tailor-made lengths, but it also jumps the build queue at the factory. Existing cables can also be upgraded with the new plugs, trousers and terminations, too.

Shawline X

ShawlineX speaker cable is based around Chord Rumour (now known as RumourX) – a favourite for 20+ years.  The conductors are silver-plated, insulated with XLPE and arranged in a twisted pair configuration.  To produce Chord ShawlineX, we’ve taken the existing conductor layout, added a specially chosen PVC internal jacket to reduce mechanical noise, before applying the same high density, dual-layer foil and braid shield that we use on Chord Epic. Previous versions of Shawline/Rumour speaker cables used PTFE insulation (often referred to as Teflon™) and until the arrival of Taylon®, this was our “go to” material. Although expensive, PTFE offered the best performance. Material technology is constantly developing and improving and alternatives to PTFE are now available. While the high cost of Taylon® prevents us from using this in all of our ranges, we found a suitable replacement among the family of insulation materials known as XLPE (Cross-linked Polyethylene). One particular version stood out and following listening tests, proved to be clearly (sonically) better than the PTFE in Shawline/Rumour speaker cables. Rumour/RumourX has been part of our range for so long because of its performance.  It’s neutral (ie. not biased towards one particular sound) and capable of carrying high levels of detail and dynamic information. Because of this, it will carry music in an extremely coherent manner.  In other words, your music sounds more like it should. ShawlineX takes this as a starting point and refines it.  The whole reason for using high frequency effective shielding is that by reducing interference, the cable is better able to carry the micro-dynamics and timing slurs that musicians use so much to define rhythm and expression.  The Shawline also carries the very fine details that reveal more of the timbre of individual instruments.  This allows you to look further into and get more involved in music, with the added benefit of enhancing the image and depth of the system it’s being used in. ShawlineX speaker cable is available off the reel or terminated at our UK factory with  ChordOhmic  4mm banana plugs or ChordOhmic spade connectors. Demonstration sets are available at most retailers.

Now featuring improved XLPE insulation, it joins the award-winning line-up of Chord Company shielded speaker cables, including the acclaimed ClearwayX, ShawlineX and EpicX/XL. Our design objective was to produce a cable discreet enough for easy fitting and routing, with all the performance benefits that shielding can bring. C-screenX is just 9mm in diameter and flexible enough to route around corners with ease. It’s finished with a white outer jacket which protects the shielding and makes it virtually invisible against white skirting boards. C-screenX features multi-stranded oxygen-free copper conductors, insulated with XLPE and arranged in a twisted-pair configuration to reduce interference. The cable is then enclosed in a PVC casing that reduces mechanical noise and spaces the conductors correctly, relative to the twin-foil shielding. C-screenX has the same characteristics as our other shielded speaker cables: the ability to carry a musical signal with a genuine sense of musical coherence and involvement;  shielded speaker cables bring real performance benefits to both hi-fi and home cinema systems, where interference can seriously affect sound quality.
